History of Terrell Hills

In the late 1800s, Brigadier General Charles Milton Terrell owned a large chunk of land in Bexar County, Texas near Alamo Heights. In the 1920s, his son, Dr. Frederick Terrell (who served as Mayor of San Antonio in 1901 and who the town is named after), took to selling off the land for residential purposes starting with a sale of 22 acres to a private association called the Terrell Hills Community. The organization would continue to manage the development until it was incorporated as a municipality in 1939.

The town’s history wasn’t without controversy. The City of San Antonio moved to annex Terrell Hills in 1945 without permitting an election in either Terrell Hills or San Antonio. After a hard-fought battle, Terrell Hills was able to successfully block the annexation. In 1957, Terrell Hills adopted a home-rule charter thereby giving them the power of self-government. Today, Terrell Hills has its own city council, mayor, public works office, and police department.

Located a short five miles from downtown San Antonio in Bexar County, Texas, Terrell Hills is home to some of the most notable estates in the San Antonio area.

Car Accident Reports in San Antonio, Texas

The aftermath of any car accident is an emotional and stressful time, whether you were directly involved or if you’re a family member of someone who is going through the struggles and inconveniences of being involved in a collision. You may need to access a variety of support systems or resources. One of the resources you may access is a Texas Car Accident Report. This is why contacting the police immediately following a collision is of extreme importance.

The police file a report after attending a traffic accident scene where an injury is involved, a fatality, or if there is property damage to the vehicles of $1,000 or more. This report can be beneficial to determining who is at fault for the collision after a thorough investigation by the police. The Texas Department of Transportation will maintain the reports. You can access a report for a small fee from the Crash Records Information System.

You may wonder what you would need to access the report?

You will need:

  • Your name,
  • the ‘Crash ID’ of the accident,
  • the date/time of the accident,
  • location of the accident,
  • persons involved in the accident,
  • your address,
  • phone number, and
  • email if you have one.

What Evidence to Collect from the Scene of the Accident

Seeking Rightful Compensation from a Texas Car Accident

Texas follows the law of the “modified comparative fault.” How does this work?

It allocates an applicable contribution of fault to those involved in a car crash. The at-fault law ensures a shared responsibility in traffic accidents.

Here is an example of how the allocation could look.

If you’re found 30% at fault in a car crash, the other driver will carry the balance of blame, so 70%. Compensation follows the percentages. So, you will receive 30% less than the value of what is awarded to you by a jury of your peers.

Yet, if you bear more than 50% of the liability, you will not receive any compensation for damages. This is due to the state law known as the “50% Modified Comparative Negligence” model. The ultimate allocation of liability in a case involving the negligence of a third-party is determined by a jury at the conclusion of a trial. Do not let an insurance adjuster make that determination for you. Hire someone to fight for you.

Be sure to have the support of a law firm to help you navigate these complex laws. It won’t cost you anything for an initial consultation. Reach out to Patterson Law Group to speak to a personal injury lawyer for your Free Case Evaluation.
