History of Burleson, Texas

The city of Burleson, Texas, has its origins as a railroad town. It was first settled in 1881 when the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad proposed constructing a railroad that would stretch from Fort Worth, Texas, to Hillsboro, Texas.

The MKT Railroad then established a depot on the townsite, approximately 14 miles south of Fort Worth in Tarrant County, Texas. The railroad’s land acquisition representative was a man called Grenville M. Dodge.

After buying the land, he named the Burleson’s area in honor of his teacher Dr. Rufus Columbus Burleson, who was also president of Baylor University in Waco, Texas, from 1851-1861, & 1886-1897.

Car Accidents in Burleson, Texas

Burleson is located partly in Johnson County and partially in Tarrant County. Research from the Texas Department of Transportation reveals a total of 2,421 car accidents in Johnson County in 2019 and a total of 32,389 accidents in Tarrant County during the same time period.

Out of those crashes, there were 39 fatalities in Johnson County and 167 in Tarrant County. Of course, there are a number of contributing factors that could lead to a car accident.

These include:

  • Distracted driving (“dashboard dining,” driving and texting, adjusting the radio while driving, etc.)
  • Driving under the influence (of drugs or alcohol)
  • Improper/negligent vehicle maintenance (bad brakes, bald tires, no turn signal lights)

If you were injured in a car accident because of the other driver’s negligence or recklessness, then you are likely entitled to fair compensation for the injuries and damages sustained.

Establishing At Fault to Prove Liability for a Personal Injury Claim in Texas

Texas is a “comparative negligence” state, which means it can be challenging to prove that the other party was wholly responsible for your injuries.

If you were partly at fault for the accident, then your settlement can be reduced accordingly. (For instance, if you were hit by a driver that ran a red light, but you weren’t paying as much attention as you should because you were texting, you would be partly at fault for the accident.)

Moreover, if you are found to be “51% at fault,” then you cannot recover any damages in a personal injury case.

To establish that the other party is at fault, you’ll need to provide evidence of fault, which may include:

  • Firsthand accounts from eye-witnesses that saw the crash
  • The police report associated with the accident, which should contain key information on who was at fault
  • On-the-scene pictures of the damage sustained by both vehicles
  • Reports from your healthcare provider that show the accident physically impacted you

Of course, if you want to obtain the maximum possible amount for your settlement, you need to enlist the services of an experienced and reputable personal injury lawyer, like the attorneys found at the Patterson Law Group.
