We're giving two $1,000 Amazon gift cards — one to a Texas school crossing guard volunteer, one to a Texas school bus driver. The top five most-nominated in each category become finalists, and our team picks the winner based on the nomination stories.

Why we're doing this
As school lets out for the summer, we want to thank two types of people that many of us take for granted: the volunteer at the corner crosswalk and the driver at the front of the bus.
They show up in 38-degree mornings and 105-degree afternoons. They learn every kid's name. They take the brunt of drivers running late, parents running later, and weather that won't cooperate. You can't really thank someone enough for that kind of work.
Our day job is handling the personal injury cases when school-zone driving goes wrong. This is our way of recognizing two of the people who help keep it from happening in the first place.
Tell us who deserves it.
Nominate a Hero
Takes about 60 seconds. Open to crossing guard volunteers and school bus drivers at any school in Texas — public, private, charter, parochial.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can be nominated?
Any volunteer crossing guard or school bus driver who serves a school in Texas — public, private, charter, parochial, magnet, you name it. Doesn't matter the district, the city, or whether you're a Patterson Law Group client.
How does the winner get picked?
Two stages. First, we tally nominations — the five nominees with the most nominations in each category become finalists. Then our team reads the nomination stories from those finalists and picks the winner. We did it this way so the why matters as much as the vote count — a guard with one stunning story can win over a guard with more nominations but a generic write-up.
Can I nominate more than one?
Yes — fill out the form once for each person. You can nominate in both categories. Multiple nominations for the same person from different families count separately (that's how they make the finalist round).
What if I don't know their full name?
We need both first and last name so we can count nominations for the same person accurately. If you only know their first name, ask at the school office or other parents at drop-off — they'll know. Then come back and submit.
How does the prize work?
A $1,000 Amazon gift card sent directly to each winner. Two winners total, one per category. We'll close nominations Friday, June 5, 2026 at 11:59 PM CT. Winners announced the week of June 8.
Is this a sweepstakes?
No. It's a thank-you from Patterson Law Group to the two people the community votes up. No purchase, no client relationship, no strings.
"The people standing at school crossings and behind the wheel of those buses don't get thanked nearly enough. School's almost out — let's send two of them off right."
